Volunteers needed for new Kernel-based installer

I have done some work to start of rewriting the Drupal installer to be its own Symfony micro-app rather than a pile of workarounds upon hacks upon hacks. I do not have time to carry it forward, but this is a very important free-standing task to help clean up Drupal 8. It's also a great opportunity to learn more about Symfony, and become a Drupal hero for making the installer not suck. :-) It can also serve as an example for update.php and cron.php.

Entity property translation storage discussion

Plans for entity property translation storage are being discussed currently at http://drupal.org/node/1498634. This could be a noticeable piece in how you implement your entity modules and also how core handles property translation. While our current proposal leaves the regular entity tables (such as node and node_revisions) untouched, it does introduce two tables for storage of translations for current and historic values respectively. Your feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Web services and Layout initiaitives round-up

In mid-February, Acquia hosted a sprint for the Web Services initiative to try and get clarity on the initiative's goals, as well as how best to proceed.

Here's a round-up of posts coming out of the sprint, that talk about conclusions, as well as where Drupal 8 is headed:

The excitement from the community about these changes is palpable, but the folks leading these initiatives can't do it by themselves. Please help get involved if you want Drupal 8 to be the best release of Drupal ever!
