Shimmering cosmos and shadowy figures appear through rock formations in a Joshua Tree-like atmosphere.
A mystical pearl-toned fog emanates from a shining box as a beautiful young redhead runs through the desert. Clad in white and emanating a Florence Welch-meets-Artemis vibe, the mysterious Silversun Pickups appear like a desert mirage in front of her.
This is just some of the enigmatic imagery that appears in the new James Frost-directed video for Silversun Pickups’ “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings).”
Subsequently thrilling, dark, and beautiful, the video as an element of “horror,” especially with the band wearing all black and the seemingly frightened girl running from invisible force.
“I know everybody’s kind of running around saying it sounds like a horror movie…And it does,” frontman Brian Aubert said about Neck of The Woods. “It feels like a little bit of a horror movie. This record feels like a horror movie that hasn’t been invented and it needs the details of your life.”
“And it also kind of reminds me of Wargames for some reason. There’s a little bit of that on this record, I’ve got to admit.”

Waiting patiently in a suite on the 4th floor of a posh Beverly Hills hotel sat KROQ’s Stryker with microphone in hand ready to interview one of the busiest men in rock, one Mr. Jack White. In a noticeably cheerful mood, White entered the room, sans entourage. Dressed as always in black, accented only by his hat and eyeball ring on his right hand.
Everything is all you on Blunderbuss, right?, began Stryker.
“Written, yes. But performed by a myriad of of people from the Third Man Records family out in Nashville, from all over really… Detroit, Brooklyn. A lot of session people that played on all of Third Man 45s I’ve been producing for the last couple of years.”
Of the songs on the album, are these all things that you’ve held onto for years or did they just come to you within the last couple of years?
“They were all written at the time of making the record, some on the spot, some the day before,” Explains White. “There was only one thing that had been around for a long time which was the opening piano line to the song “Take Me With You When You Go.” It’s a piano thing I’ve been playing for like ten, twelve years… every time I sit down at the piano I play this thing. I always thought it was some song that I heard somewhere, a big band radio station from the 40s. I hadn’t heard it in ten years so I figured maybe it’s mine and I finally recorded it.”

In the heart of ever-changing Downtown LA, The Last Bookstore is in fact one of the only existing consignment stores for books, CD’s and records in Southern California.
The Last Bookstore got its start in 2005 as a modest, small scale bookstore located in a loft. Since then it has moved twice, with the store currently residing at 453 South Spring St. It is continually evolving in size and content, and provides Angelenos with a place to trade in old books and records with the hopes of finding new ones to add to their collections.
If you’re looking for a vintage record or rare book that you can’t find anywhere else, or if you’re interested in discovering a cool spot to hang out at during the week, The Last Bookstore may be just the place for you.

The world was hit hard by the passing of the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch a/k/a MCA. While many remember him for his role in the groundbreaking hip-hop group, Yauch’s efforts as a filmmaker and head of Oscilloscope Laboratories were less publicized.
However, after Oscilloscope gained distribution rights to a documentary film called Shut Up And Play The Hits about popular New York based dance-punk band LCD Soundsystem that will be sure to change–at least for one night.
On July 18, fans in 70 cities will get to see the film about LCD Soundsystem’s final days as a band. The documentary–which features Chuck Klosterman narrating in the trailer and camera work by Spike Jonze–received critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival.

Next time Chicago rockers Rise Against are playing your town and you see a familiar tattooed frame speeding by on a bicycle, it might be frontman Tim McIlrath.
When the political punk rocker was asked how he balances his private life with both his artistic and socially-conscientious endeavors, McIlrath said he doesn’t “claim to balance it” but did give KROQ/Los Angeles a glimpse into his pre-show rituals.
A guy who never imagined himself to have rock tar status, McIlrath likes bike riding in the town he is in or getting breakfast, connecting with fans at record store signings, and treating his dressing room like a living room.
“Your dressing room is kind of like your living room at one point,” McIlrath says. “It’s like your house. It’s where you’re living and waking up everyday. And so, you’ve got to treat it like that in a way. This is where I get stuff done; this is my home.”

The second track on Neon Trees’ new album, Picture Show, is what frontman Tyler Glenn calls “bratty.”
Glenn describes the song, “Teenage Sounds,” as “basically a four minute rant of everything I’m tired of.” But Glenn was scared to say the lyric, “I’m sick of always operating out of fear/I’m sick of being called a fag because I’m queer.”
Glenn explains, “I thought of the line not in a sexual way but in fact that I’ve been called a fag since I was probably 11 years old for dressing different or listening to to different music. For being me. I can only imagine how frightening it would be to be gay and be called that relentlessly.”more
