  Mobile Group Update for Sep 23, 2013 

  What’s New

  • iOS: The new iOS 7 app is out with a clean new look inspired by MP6.
  • iOS: some serious bugs arose with the iOS 7 release and we’ve been working on bug fixes since.
  • iOS: theme switching for WordPress.com blogs is getting closer, will be picked up after bugs are cleared.
  • Android: the beta hit a snag or two with Stats, so it’ll run for another week or so.
  • Android: the new native WordPress.com reader and the new NUX were merged.

  What’s Next

  • iOS: issue 3.8.2 to fix publishing issues, otherwise only monitor.
  • Android: monitor existing beta.

  Note: since the vast majority of the contributors on the iOS and Android projects will be out for the next 7-8 days or so, the apps will only be monitored and not actively developed unless severe issues arise. The next weekly dev chat will be held as usual on Monday at 16:00 UTC but it’ll be more of a casual thing.

  Support Team Update for September 19th 2013 

  The following items were discussed.

  Reviews sub-forum

  Recently it was reported that a user was being abusive to an author outside of the forums and that review was deleted. If a forum conversation becomes or borders on harassment then that will need to be addressed. To report reviews like that please use the modlook tag or bring the topic to the attention of the wp-forums list.

  Keep in mind that there is a difference between an abusive review or reviewer and someone posting an unfair review. The first one should be reported but unfair reviews can be simply replied to or even ignored.

  There was also some discussion regarding fake reviews by sock puppets or reviews that were “encouraged” off of the forums. When discovered those reviews get deleted. Fair reviews will come in time but gaming the review system is discouraged.

  WordPress 3.6.1 upload limitations

  Just as an FYI some users have encountered the new limitation where certain file types cannot be uploaded via WordPress if the user lacks the capability to use unfiltered HTML. Mel (Esmi) encountered such a forum topic and provided a solution for educated users. By educated I mean as a one off (the user was previously doing this) and this is not a recommended change. That limitation was implemented (wisely!) as a needed security modification.

  This was brought up because some users were mistaking this new restriction for why they could not upload any files via WordPress.

  Docs Team Update for September 19, 2013 

  Here’s a summary of today’s Docs chat:

  • Handbooks: @hanni has adopted the Plugin Developer Handbook and will be acting editor to drive progress. @sewmyheadon is editing the Theme Developer Handbook.  Both Handbooks still need lots of help.
  • Monthly Docs Meetups: WP Seattle’s Monthly Docs Improvement Meetup is this Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at 10am PT / 1pm ET. Not in Seattle? Participate remotely via IRC at #wordpress-sfd.  @sewmyheadon will  organize a second monthly virtual Docs Improvement Meetup to speed up Handbook progress.  Dates coming soon.
  • devhub: Siobhan posted notes on this week’s developer.wordpress.org meeting.
  • Codex Spam: @kimparsell posted about a rise of spam in the Codex.We need to still be vigilant about taking care of anything spammy found in the Codex.
  • Inline Docs: The Inline Docs weekly meeting yesterday addressed some workflow issues. All resolved, things should be much smoother moving forward. @DrewAPicture has been given guest commit priviledges for the Inline Docs.

    We’ll be focusing mainly on the Plugin and Theme Developer Handbooks on Saturday, but you’re welcome to work on anything you like.

    We need lots of help with the Handbooks though – everything from writing, to code samples/examples, to screenshots, so if you’re willing, hit me up on IRC on Saturday – I’m @sewmyheadon.

  Core Group Update for September 18, 2013 

  Important Notes from this week:

  • Landed clearing of transients on DB Upgrade [25416]
  • Landed first run of Automatic Upgrades; disabled by default (can enable with filter) [25421]
  • Remaining enhancements still at 111, which is 111 more than we really want to be able to release. Called all hands on deck to help prune.

  3.8 Plugin Group Highlights:

  Chatted with @sams about updates from the various plugin teams.
  The current plan is to pass on (with his assistance) highlights when they happen, or are most likely to affect the other groups, since otherwise there’s much more status than any of us care to keep in mind at once.

  • MP6: Working on color schemes. Quite close to something that fits core, and ready for polishing prior to the merge window.
  • Omnisearch: Up for user testing. Next chat tomorrow.

  [edit] Forgot to mention (and remembered immediately after hitting post, of course), that @DrewAPicture now has guest commit for 3.7, so that he can beat inline docs into submission. Huzzah, good fellow! He is, per usual, the person to bug if you’d like to get involved, or have questions about the process. The activity on inline docs for hooks can be tracked in [25229]. [/edit]

Update

• iOS: Version 3.8, modernizing update (MP6+iOS7) is approved. We’ll release this week.
• iOS: The theme switching feature is looking good. Planning to release in 3.9
• Android: Released a new beta via Google Play’s Beta system that includes the WordPress.com Themes, native Stats, Media and pin code lock features. Al
• Android: NUX is getting there, looking to wrap it for an October release

What’s Next

• iOS: Release 3.8, modernizing update and monitor the new version
• iOS: Progress on the visual editor.
• Android: monitor the beta, plan for the release
