How To Replace An HVAC Condensate Pump

Pump motors will eventually fail. This is a fact of life. There is one very important pump that is a part of most HVAC systems, the condensate pump. This pump’s purpose is to catch the condensate (water) that drains from your air handler and then evacuate it from your basement or crawlspace.

These pumps typically have a small reservoir with a float switch that turns the pump on when the water raises to a certain height. The pump will usually also have a second, safety switch that prevents the HVAC system from turning on and causing more condensate to be created.

The pump for my system is a Little Giant VCMA-15ULS that is sold at Amazon and available from Grainger. Yours might be different and it’s best to try to replace failed parts with the same model whenever possible.
