There are at least two ways to get the git submodule initialized<br />
<ol>
<li>clone recursively to begin with. <code>git clone --recursive <url></code></li>
<li>use git to init submodules in the existing clone. <code>git submodule init</code> and then <code>git submodule update</code></li>
