Three people were killed when a speeding vehicle driven by a juvenile struck pedestrians Saturday night in Oakland, authorities said.

A spokesperson for the Oakland Fire Department said the crash occurred at 11:15 p.m at 85th Avenue and International Boulevard. Three people were killed at the scene, and three others, including two in critical condition, were taken to local hospitals. Two other pedestrians suffered minor injuries.

The Oakland Police Department said that a driver crashed into several cars and struck multiple pedestrians.

In an email to The Times, police officials said the driver is a juvenile. The driver was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and was arrested. Police said it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

Police said it appeared the vehicle was traveling north on 85th Avenue and made a turn west onto International Boulevard when it struck the pedestrians and a parked vehicle.

The suspect tried to flee the scene but was stopped and detained by civilians, fire officials told The Times.
