Three ways to use Studio. Pick what fits your workflow.

Studio Desktop
The visual way. Point-and-click local site management on macOS and Windows.

Studio CLI
The command-line way. Scriptable for CI, automation, and remote setups.

Studio Code (beta)
The AI way on desktop and via the CLI. Describe what you want, and get blocks, themes, plugins, or a full site.
Studio Code: the AI agent for WordPress
Your WordPress expert on desktop and in the terminal. Describe what you want in natural language and Studio Code builds it based on WordPress best practices, tools, and skills.
Free in beta.

Vibe code complete sites
Tell Studio Code what you want, point it at a reference URL, or hand it a folder of images. The agent builds it locally.
Fluent in WordPress
WordPress best practices are baked in, so Studio Code validates every block against the real editor.
Self-correcting
Studio Code screenshots its own work and iterates until the layout matches what you asked for.
Sync, preview, and ship
Move your work between local and live with Studio Sync, share live preview sites with clients, and ship to WordPress.com or Pressable in one step.

Selective sync
Push or pull anything from a single theme or plugin to the database or full wp-content folder.
Cloud-hosted previews
Generate a preview site from any local site. The link stays live whether or not your laptop is awake — no tunnels, no ngrok.
Save once, reuse forever
Bundle a theme, plugin stack, demo content, and settings into a Blueprint, and spin up new sites from that template every time.
Use your own agent
Studio gives Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and Codex the WordPress context and access they’re missing — without any prompt engineering. Set up MCP and explore agent skills.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to have a WordPress.com account to use WordPress Studio?
A WordPress.com account is required only if you want to leverage the preview sites feature for showcasing your projects and gathering feedback.
What operating system do I need to use WordPress Studio?
You can run WordPress Studio on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
How can I export a theme from WordPress Studio?
Themes created in WordPress Studio function in the same manner as themes created in traditional WordPress sites. Themes can be exported in the desktop app by clicking “Export” found within the “Options” menu in the top-right corner of the WordPress site editor. See our documentation for additional details on these steps.
How does Studio Sync work?
Studio Sync lets you keep your local WordPress Studio sites in sync with a production or staging site in either direction. It’s available for all WordPress.com sites on the Business or Commerce plan, as well as Pressable sites with Jetpack enabled.
Log in with your WordPress.com account to see all your available sites. From there, you can sync your entire local site with just a few clicks or choose specific items like a single plugin or theme. See our documentation for additional details on these steps.
How do preview sites work?
After connecting WordPress Studio to your WordPress.com account, you can create hosted clones of your local sites. These clones, or “preview sites,” are powered by WordPress.com and hosted on a temporary domain, simplifying the process of gathering feedback from anyone, anywhere.
The ability to push updates from your local site to your hosted preview site adds further flexibility and potential for refining your project based on feedback. Your preview site remains active for seven days after the last update, and you can update as many times as you’d like, ensuring you have ample time to perfect your project.
You can have up to ten free preview sites associated with your account at any given time. Rest assured, we don’t include deleted or expired preview sites in the count!
How can I contribute to WordPress Studio?
WordPress Studio is a free and open source app, and our mission is for Studio to be the fastest and simplest way for developers to build a WordPress site. We welcome all contributions in pursuit of this mission. Think fewer buttons, not more.
Feel free to open a GitHub issue to discuss your proposed improvement. Pull requests are welcome for bug fixes and enhancements. New features will need to go through our internal vetting process before they are accepted.
