Steven Alan's Expansion Plans Include Home Decor, More Stores

Following the opening of his latest store in San Francisco, WWD spoke with retail master Steven Alan about what's next for the brand. Happily, it sounds like more expansion is on the horizon. Though Alan is taking things slow, he says he's "thinking about" new shops in Boston, Georgetown, Chicago, and Seattle. But don't look for them in the obvious places. "We’re really a neighborhood store... I can’t imagine us ever being on Fifth Avenue or 57th Street. It’s really fun to shape the store to the community," he said.

Also, home goods are in the works, and similar to the Steven Alan apparal shops, it sounds like there will be a mix of carefully sourced goods and brand label items. "We have an office space on Franklin Street [in New York] that we’re moving out of in July, so we’re considering doing home there. It would be a mixture of vintage and new products, and eventually we’d also make our own things," he said. We're going to go out on a limb and say there may be some stripes involved in this initiative.

This season's notable lack of Joan was remedied in last night's episode, as well as this season's lack of Paul Kinsey, though nobody really missed him all that much. Lane and Harry both had big plots this episode, too, so it looks like Matthew Weiner is really pulling out all the stops now that Megan isn't prancing around the office anymore.

Also: Last night's episode was called the Christmas Waltz, so try to suspend your disbelief on that, since it's the middle of May and all. And now—onto the lying, the forging, and the throwing things!
